About the Radiation Sign
Radiation signs are one of the few whose design is set in detail by regulation. OSHA 29 CFR 1910.1096(e) and the NRC's 10 CFR 20.1901–20.1902 prescribe the three-bladed radiation symbol — a central disc with blades between 1.5 and 5 times its radius, 60° wide — in magenta, purple or black on a yellow background, and the exact legends: CAUTION, RADIATION AREA; CAUTION or DANGER, HIGH RADIATION AREA; GRAVE DANGER, VERY HIGH RADIATION AREA; CAUTION, AIRBORNE RADIOACTIVITY AREA; CAUTION or DANGER, RADIOACTIVE MATERIAL(S). The builder draws the symbol to that construction beside your legend. Posting requirements depend on dose rates and your license — check with your radiation safety officer.
