About the Fire Equipment Sign

Red is OSHA's identification color for fire protection equipment and apparatus (29 CFR 1910.144(a)(1)), so fire equipment location signs are white lettering on a red field: FIRE EXTINGUISHER, FIRE ALARM, FIRE HOSE. They carry no signal word — the sign's job is to be found quickly — so the builder draws the message alone inside a white inset border.
